A day in your life
Combine subject, time, place, and action to describe a simple routine.
What you’ll work on
- Describe routine actions.
- Place a location phrase before an action.
- Use 每天 and 都 in a basic routine sentence.
A short conversation
Google voice when available; device voice as a fallback. Pinyin shows dictionary tones; natural speech includes the tone changes taught in the lessons.
你每天几点起床?
What time do you get up every day?
我每天七点起床。
I get up at seven every day.
你在哪里学习中文?
Where do you study Chinese?
我在家学习中文。
I study Chinese at home.
Say who does what
A basic action sentence follows subject + verb + object: 我学习中文. The verb does not change for I, you, or we. An action such as 起床 may stand without a separate object.
Learn routines as useful chunks: 起床 (get up), 吃饭 (eat a meal), 学习 (study), and 工作 (work). Reusing a small number of actions makes time and place easier to practice.
Give the setting before the action
For these sentences, use subject + time + 在 + place + action. 我晚上在家学习中文 means “I study Chinese at home in the evening.” 在家 tells where the action happens.
Do not put 在家 after 学习中文 by copying the English order. There are other patterns in Mandarin, but this is the ordinary pattern for the actions in this lesson.
Talk about repeated days
每天 means “every day”. 都 can emphasize that the statement applies to each day: 我每天都学习中文. It goes before the verb, after the time expression.
Describe a realistic routine. A short amount of daily practice is a study choice, not a guarantee of a particular result. Use a time you can actually repeat.

Practice questions
Try every question, then check your answers. Capital letters and punctuation do not affect your score. Pinyin tone marks matter. For typed answers, use simplified characters or the taught pinyin (spacing is flexible).
Showing an answer makes that question a practice item worth zero for this attempt. Retry with the answers hidden when you’re ready. If audio cannot play, use Show answer / text to practice by reading.
Independent practice
These are independent practice tasks. The site does not record your voice, save your writing, or grade open-ended answers. Ask a teacher or conversation partner for feedback when you can.
Speaking practice
Describe three parts of a real or invented day. Include the time for one action and the location for another.
Writing practice
Write a subject–time–place–action sentence. Label each part in English.
