  • Use time and location before the action.
  • Arrange a meeting using a clear time.
READ & LISTEN

A short conversation

Google voice when available; device voice as a fallback. Pinyin shows dictionary tones; natural speech includes the tone changes taught in the lessons.

Mei

你明天几点起床?

nǐ míng tiān jǐ diǎn qǐ chuáng

What time will you get up tomorrow?

Lin

我七点起床,然后在家学习。

wǒ qī diǎn qǐ chuáng. rán hòu zài jiā xué xí

I will get up at seven, then study at home.

Mei

我们下午三点见,好吗?

wǒ men xià wǔ sān diǎn jiàn. hǎo ma

Shall we meet at three in the afternoon?

Lin

好。下午三点见。

hǎo. xià wǔ sān diǎn jiàn

All right. See you at three in the afternoon.

Arrange the setting before the event

A useful order is subject + time + place + action. Start with who, then when and where, then what they do. Time can also appear before the subject.

Use actual or invented details. A clear short schedule gives more practice than a long list of unfamiliar actions. 然后 means “then”; you will practice linking actions more fully in Unit 6.

我明天在家学习。wǒ míng tiān zài jiā xué xíI will study at home tomorrow.

Check your numbers aloud

Read the number before choosing the measure word. 二 belongs in 二十三, while 两 is used in 两本书 and 两点. 本 counts books; 杯 counts cupfuls.

Repeat a meeting time back to confirm it. Add 上午 or 下午 when the part of the day could be unclear. 好吗 after a suggestion asks whether it is acceptable.

Practice questions

Try every question, then check your answers. Capital letters and punctuation do not affect your score. Pinyin tone marks matter. For typed answers, use simplified characters or the taught pinyin (spacing is flexible).

Showing an answer makes that question a practice item worth zero for this attempt. Retry with the answers hidden when you’re ready. If audio cannot play, use Show answer / text to practice by reading.

01Choose “two books”.
02Write “half past two”.
03Choose the taught word order.
04Listen, then type the phrase in characters or tone-marked pinyin.
