Reasons with 因为 and 所以

Connect a reason to its result.

因为 + reason，所以 + result

因为 introduces a reason, and 所以 introduces a result. Mandarin can use both in one sentence, although natural English often uses only because or so.

You can also use just one of these words when the relationship is already clear.

Examples

因为下雨，所以我在家。

Yīnwèi xià yǔ, suǒyǐ wǒ zài jiā.

Because it is raining, I am at home.

我很累，所以想休息。

Wǒ hěn lèi, suǒyǐ xiǎng xiūxi.

I am tired, so I want to rest.

我学中文，因为我喜欢中国电影。

Wǒ xué Zhōngwén, yīnwèi wǒ xǐhuan Zhōngguó diànyǐng.

I study Chinese because I like Chinese films.

Choose a clear reason and result; avoid treating connectors as interchangeable decorations.
