Review: introduce someone
Combine identity, family, possession, and descriptions in a short introduction.
What you’ll work on
- Choose 是, 有, or 很 by meaning.
- Use 的 to link an owner and a thing.
- Negate 有 correctly.
A short conversation
Google voice when available; device voice as a fallback. Pinyin shows dictionary tones; natural speech includes the tone changes taught in the lessons.
她是你的老师吗?
Is she your teacher?
不是,她是我姐姐。
No, she is my older sister.
她忙吗?
Is she busy?
她很忙。她有很多书。
She is busy. She has many books.
Choose the sentence for your meaning
是 + noun identifies a person: 她是老师. 有 + noun tells what someone has. 很 + adjective describes someone. These are separate patterns even when English uses “is” in more than one of them.
For a negative, use 不是 for identity, 没有 for possession, and 不忙 for a description. Do not use 不有.
Turn information into a question
Add 吗 to a statement when you want a yes–no answer. Keep the other words in the same order. Read each answer and then form the question it could answer.
我的 and 你的 identify owners. In a family expression such as 我姐姐, 的 is often omitted. Keep it in 我姐姐的书, where the sister owns the book.
Lesson vocabulary
Listen once, say it aloud, and try to recall the Chinese before looking.

Practice questions
Try every question, then check your answers. Capital letters and punctuation do not affect your score. Pinyin tone marks matter. For typed answers, use simplified characters or the taught pinyin (spacing is flexible).
Showing an answer makes that question a practice item worth zero for this attempt. Retry with the answers hidden when you’re ready. If audio cannot play, use Show answer / text to practice by reading.
Independent practice
These are independent practice tasks. The site does not record your voice, save your writing, or grade open-ended answers. Ask a teacher or conversation partner for feedback when you can.
Speaking practice
Introduce an invented family member: identify them, describe them, and say what they have.
Writing practice
Create one affirmative and one negative sentence for each pattern: 是, 有, and 很 + adjective.
