Checkpoint: people and descriptions
Check identification, possession, questions, and adjective statements.
What you’ll work on
- Use Unit 2 patterns independently.
- Choose the correct negative.
- Distinguish spoken and written pronouns.
A short conversation
Google voice when available; device voice as a fallback. Pinyin shows dictionary tones; natural speech includes the tone changes taught in the lessons.
你有妹妹吗?
Do you have a younger sister?
没有,我有一个哥哥。
No, I have one older brother.
他是学生吗?
Is he a student?
是,他也是学生。
Yes, he is also a student.
Identify the job of each word
For each question, decide whether you are identifying someone, describing them, or talking about possession. That decision helps you select 是, 很, or 有.
Review both meaning and position. Words such as 不 and 也 belong before the verb or adjective they modify; 吗 belongs at the end of the yes–no question.
Lesson vocabulary
Listen once, say it aloud, and try to recall the Chinese before looking.
| Chinese / pinyin | English | Listen |
|---|---|---|
| 他 tā | he / him | |
| 她 tā | she / her | |
| 也 yě | also | |
| 吗 ma | yes–no question particle | |
| 忙 máng | busy |
Practice questions
Try every question, then check your answers. Capital letters and punctuation do not affect your score. Pinyin tone marks matter. For typed answers, use simplified characters or the taught pinyin (spacing is flexible).
Showing an answer makes that question a practice item worth zero for this attempt. Retry with the answers hidden when you’re ready. If audio cannot play, use Show answer / text to practice by reading.
Independent practice
These are independent practice tasks. The site does not record your voice, save your writing, or grade open-ended answers. Ask a teacher or conversation partner for feedback when you can.
Speaking practice
Ask two questions about an invented person. Give one affirmative answer and one negative answer.
Writing practice
Write a five-sentence introduction using 是, 有, 没有, 的, and an adjective.
