Final checkpoint: a foundation conversation
Review core Mandarin patterns through practical questions, listening, and short written answers.
What you’ll work on
- Retrieve a selection of patterns from the course.
- Identify a practical next step for continued Mandarin study.
A short conversation
Google voice when available; device voice as a fallback. Pinyin shows dictionary tones; natural speech includes the tone changes taught in the lessons.
你明天想做什么?
What would you like to do tomorrow?
我想去书店,然后去喝茶。
I would like to go to the bookshop, then go for tea.
Use the language you can retrieve
This checkpoint samples introductions, descriptions, requests, time, experiences, and reasons. It cannot measure every aspect of listening or speaking, and a high score is not a proficiency certificate.
Attempt each item before revealing the answer. Written items accept the supplied simplified Chinese characters or tone-marked pinyin. Spacing, capital letters, and punctuation do not affect the score; pinyin tones still matter.
Choose the next small task
After checking your answers, choose one weak area: tone listening, reading characters, recalling a sentence, or answering without a script. Revisit the relevant lesson and use a short resource suited to that task.
Keep a manageable routine of listening, reading, recall, and real communication. Your next milestone can be a short exchange that you understand and can vary, rather than a promised fluency deadline.
Lesson vocabulary
Listen once, say it aloud, and try to recall the Chinese before looking.
| Chinese / pinyin | English | Listen |
|---|---|---|
| 中文 Zhōngwén | Chinese language | |
| 想 xiǎng | to want to; to think | |
| 因为 yīnwèi | because | |
| 所以 suǒyǐ | so; therefore | |
| 比 bǐ | than; introduces a comparison | |
| 过 guo | particle marking a past experience |
Practice questions
Try every question, then check your answers. Capital letters and punctuation do not affect your score. Pinyin tone marks matter. For typed answers, use simplified characters or the taught pinyin (spacing is flexible).
Showing an answer makes that question a practice item worth zero for this attempt. Retry with the answers hidden when you’re ready. If audio cannot play, use Show answer / text to practice by reading.
Independent practice
These are independent practice tasks. The site does not record your voice, save your writing, or grade open-ended answers. Ask a teacher or conversation partner for feedback when you can.
Speaking practice
Give a short introduction and continue with a preference, an experience, and a plan. Ask one related question after each statement.
Writing practice
Write a short message arranging a meeting. Include a time, activity, and question inviting agreement; then choose one course topic to review next.
