What you’ll work on

  • Recall useful phrases from lessons 16–18.
  • Choose a question that fits the information you need.
READ & LISTEN

A short conversation

Google voice when available; device voice as a fallback. Pinyin shows dictionary tones; natural speech includes the tone changes taught in the lessons.

安娜

我要一杯茶。多少钱?

Wǒ yào yī bēi chá. Duōshao qián?

I would like a cup of tea. How much is it?

店员

十块。

Shí kuài.

Ten yuan.

安娜

谢谢。请问,车站在哪里?

Xièxie. Qǐngwèn, chēzhàn zài nǎlǐ?

Thank you. Excuse me, where is the station?

店员

一直走,车站在学校旁边。

Yīzhí zǒu, chēzhàn zài xuéxiào pángbiān.

Go straight ahead; the station is next to the school.

Choose the question first

For something you would like to drink, use 想喝. For a price, ask 多少钱. For a location, ask 在哪里. A short question is useful when the situation makes its topic clear.

Before answering, identify what you are being asked: an item, an amount, or a place. This is more useful than translating each syllable in isolation.

你想喝什么?Nǐ xiǎng hē shénme? What would you like to drink?
这杯茶多少钱?Zhè bēi chá duōshao qián?How much is this cup of tea?

Use small phrases in a new combination

Say the dialogue once with the text, then cover it and repeat the situation using water instead of tea. Keep 杯 with the drink.

For directions, change only the destination or landmark at first. Accurate reuse helps you notice which words can vary and which pattern remains.

我想喝水。Wǒ xiǎng hē shuǐ.I would like to drink water.
车站在学校旁边。Chēzhàn zài xuéxiào pángbiān.The station is next to the school.

EXERCISES

Practice questions

Try every question, then check your answers. Capital letters and punctuation do not affect your score. Pinyin tone marks matter. For typed answers, use simplified characters or the taught pinyin (spacing is flexible).

Showing an answer makes that question a practice item worth zero for this attempt. Retry with the answers hidden when you’re ready. If audio cannot play, use Show answer / text to practice by reading.

01You know which book you want, but need its price. Choose the useful question.
02Complete 两___水 with the measure word for cups or glasses.
03Write “I would like to drink tea.” Use 想喝.
04Write “The station is next to the school.”
05Listen and write the sentence in characters or tone-marked pinyin.
